This week's 10 To Answer features Sound Avtar
Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Piyush Bhatnagar and I produce dubstep and heavy bass music by the name of ‘Sound Avtar’. I am from India and I live in Mumbay city, where I have my studio set up and that’s where I produce music and travel for gigs all across the country.
When did you start producing?
I have been attached with the music production and industry for quite a long time now. I started producing music only 3 years back and have no other alias other that ‘Sound Avtar’. I love to produce bass heavy music. And I produce Dubstep and bass heavy Electro House. Over the time I have developed my own signature bass sounds which are very noticeable in my tracks.
What are the tracks people should know you of?
There are lots of them. “Top Gun” EP on High Chai records, which came out last year, has a lot of grunge and variation in bass. And it’s also good to mention ‘Drop Dead’ here, which was played at EDC, Las Vegas 2012 by Adventur Club and got a lot of support from artists both from India and as well as from the international circuit.
All of my tracks are very special to me and it’s really hard to pick out a single favorite. You should check my SoundCloud page, the link is given at the end of the interview.
Of course for my releases on Rub A Duck like the latest EP 1UP - Monster On A Rope
What hard- and software do you use to produce your music?
I have a simple set up. I produce on Ableton Live 8 and usually use my own self-synthesized sounds, software’s inbuilt Sound banks and instruments racks. I have a ‘Motu-Ultralite MK3’ audio interface. Other than percussions and some music instruments which keep on going in and out of the studio, I use ‘KRK Rokit5’ and ‘M Audio Bx8a’.
What are your musical influences?
My pose’ and some friends jokingly call me as the “Indian Skrillex”- so Skrillex will be on the list, then I like to listen to the Knife Party, Borgore, zomboy, Sigma, Chase & Status, nero and many more.
Can you tell us something about your first dj gig?
My first gig was a private event at my home town in Jaipur. And I was 15 at that time. I’ve come a long way since then. There was no ‘Sound Avtar’ back in that time but just me having a rough time with CDjs. Howevr, the night went pretty good and I played House music. It was exhilarating just to watch so many people respond to my tracks. I was very delighted and celebrated with my friends after completing the gig at my friend’s house.
What's the coming gig you are really looking forward to and why?
I’m really excited to play at Bacardi NH 7 Weekender festival in Pune, India this year. It’s a great festival with a lot of stages, people & hosts over 200 artists. It’s good to be a part of fresh festivals like these. Other than this I’m playing at Delhi and other Indian cites as well. Festive mood is on and I’m happy to play at gigs all over India.
What can we expect from you in the near future?
I recently released my ‘1UP/ Monster on a Rope’ EP which made it to the Top 100 Dubstep releases at Beatport. My next Singles releases soon. And then I’m working on some remixes for some big artists. I am always working on my sounds, always improvising to make them sound even better. So you all should expect more quality music, more bass (I make much noise in my tracks already! haha), more filth, melody and music from me.
Who's the artist you would love to make a track with (dead or alive)?
I would love to make Bass heavy tracks with Skrillex & Knife Party. I also like Big Room orchestral music and I’m a big fan of ‘Hans Florian Zimmer’ and ‘John Towner Williams’. It would be great to work with these guys over an OST for a movie.
Any personal message to the fans?
I would like to thank my fans, people who listen to my tracks for their constant support. The journey so far would not have been possible without you guys, Thanks!! Warm hearted thanks to Black Hole recordings and my other labels for presenting me the opportunity!
“Please buy the music and support the artist, it’s only your appreciation that feeds me the fuel to work hard and bring you the best of the music”
- Love and Respect, Sound Avtar!!
